Because the retreat was held on Halloween weekend, not only did this title lend it's self well to the impending holiday, but also encourage campers to look inward at their own monsters that might be keeping them from a closer relationship with God. Through out the weekend, campers were aksed to identify their monsters, whether they be peer presure, arguments with their friends, parents or family members, failed expectations, issues in school, or perhaps even personal struggles with themselves. Once identified we pondered over how our own personal monsters have power over us and how me might release them with God's grace.
By the end of a weekend full of honest reflection, profound conversations, and meaningful worship, campers left Burnamwood with the message that while mosters can be scary, they do not have to keep us from a closer relationship with our Lord. Instead we must let our struggles give us strength, to inspire with in us a peace that only God can provide. This theme, combined with the fun of cabin trick or treating, a monster mash, pumpkin carving, and the gorgeous fall weather, it was truly a great weekend for all in attendance. -Emily Warren, Volunteer Director for Senior Hall Fall Retreat - 2011
